State License

Q. How do I obtain a license in the State?

A. Contact the Office of State Fire Marshal - 800-256-5452 or click License Info on the left for a link and additional information.

 

Q. How do I obtain the certification required for a State License?

A. LLSSA provides the certification for Security, CCTV & Fire Endorsements.  Click Training Info on the left. We also offer the ALOA Locksmith Exam on the 2nd Thursday of Each month. Click Locksmith Education Info on the left.  You can also go to the State Fire Marshal's web site for additional information on all endorsements.

 

Membership

Q. I want to become a member. Can I pay the member discount rate for the training course?

A. Membership is offered to licensed companies.  If you are trying to obtain a license and will need the training first, you may complete a Membership Application (click Join on the left) and submit it to the LLSSA Office along with your Education Registration Form.  LLSSA will hold your application until you are granted a license.  All training will need to be paid at the regular price.  Once you are issued a SFM Firm License, contact the LLSSA Office with the license number.  Your License number will be verified with the SFM Office and then your application will be submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.  If approved, your account will be credited with the member discount.  This credit will be applied towards your membership dues.  Membership Dues are due upon receipt of invoice. Your company is not a member until approved by the Board of Directors and dues are paid in full.

 

Q.  What Membership Category would my company fall under?

A. Regular Member - Licensed Fire & Security companies or Monitoring companies.

Related Industry - Licensed Locksmith & CCTV companies.

Afflilate Member - Licensed companies who provide services for their own use.

National Member - Licensed companies who have two or more locations in 15 states.

Associate Member - Business entities engaged in manufacturing, distributing, supplying, monitoring, dealing in or selling products or services related to Regular/Related Industry Members.

Public Safety Member - Police, Fire or any governmental agency concerned with law enforcement of fire safety.

 

Q. How do you handle new members in regards to renewal dues?

A. Membership dues are invoiced each year on January 1st.  If you joined during the year, your 1/1 renewal invoice will be prorated. (Ex. Joined July 30th, your January 1st invoice will be prorated by 50%)

 

Q. My company information is incorrect on the web site, how can I correct it?

Q.  How do you handle providing information to your members?

A. Web site is updated daily. Any events, CEU courses, meetings, etc. are posted as soon as they become available.  Email is also used on a regular basis.  (If you would like to add an employee to the email list, please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Newsletters are mailed quarterly.  Postcard/Brochures are also  used to announce a meeting or an event. Q. Is the Lobbyist Assessment a requirement for membership?

A. Yes, in 2000, the membership voted and approved a Lobbyist Assessment fee to become part of their annual membership dues.  

 

Certification

Q. How do I find out if I passed the test?

A. Your exams are shipped to NTS for grading.  Your results are confidential.  LLSSA cannot obtain the results for you.  The results are processed and mailed to the address provided on your exam answer sheet.  It normally takes 4 - 6 weeks.  After six weeks, if you have not received your results, please contact NTS- 866-636-1687.  You can register with ESA to obtain a transcript of NTS courses you have taken. ESAweb.org 

 

Q. What do I do if I misplaced my certificate?

A. Contact NTS -866-636-1687.  $15 charge for copies. 

 

Q. Are the NTS courses available online?

A. Yes, all courses are available online.  You can take the course at your own pace/convenince.  However, once you complete the course and pass the online test, you are required to take the NTS Test before you will be allowed to obtain a Louisiana license.  You can either take the test at the LLSSA Office during the week or you can take the test on Sunday at any scheduled class.  You must submit a registration form to LLSSA Office.  You will find one on the left side under Training Info.  Please register early, your exam will need to be shipped to the location requested.

 

Continuing Education Units (CEU)

Q. What are the requirement regarding CEUs?

A. Each year, you are required to have 8 hours of training before you will be able to renew your license.   No CEU requirements for an Apprentice License.

 

Q. Where do I send the CEU documentation?

A. You are no longer required to submit the paperwork to anyone.  You must keep all records on file in your office.  On each technicians' renewal form, they will be required to sign a statement stating that they have obtained the required amount of CEU's.  If an inspector with the State Fire Marshal's Office requests to see the documentation, you will be required to provide the information to him/her.

 

Q. What if I have more than 8 hours of training in the year, can I roll them over to next year?

A.  Yes, due to the new 3 year license, you are able to roll over your credits.
